Job Summary:
To manage a group or category of products for our company. The Category Manager will be the one responsible for the pricing and overall promotion of a product category to maximize consumer appeal. Relationships with suppliers and product range management will also be part of your duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assume responsibility of budget development and revenue for the category
- Devise short term and long-term development strategies for product categories
- Develop trusted relationships with suppliers to achieve better pricing and relevance.
- Follow up on all orders placed by supply chain and ensure stock availability for sales
- Determine the positioning of a product category to maximize visibility.
- Develop marketing campaigns, where required, to increase category/brand, awareness, to determine the right pricing strategy for the brands in the category and promotional activities.
- Collaborate with sales supervisors and sales merchandising supervisors to expand product categories and improve product visibility.
- Make forecasts for product demand to ensure the sustainability of inventory.
- Ensure that products imported comply with local laws
- Gather data to develop knowledge of the category and understanding of the market and consumer insight.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Category Manager or in a similar role, preferably in the supermarket or FMCG industry
- Strong experience in budget management, pricing, promotions, and category performance analysis.
- Proven ability to manage supplier relationships, negotiate pricing, and optimize product ranges.
- Experience in demand forecasting, inventory planning, and stock management.
- Good understanding of market trends, consumer behaviour, and category data analysis.
- Knowledge of local import regulations and compliance requirements.
- Strong communication, organizational, and negotiation skills.
- Results-driven, proactive mindset with attention to detail.
- Valid driving licence.
