About the job Accountant

  • As part of the financial reporting process, to ensure below roles and responsibilities.
  • To work closely with the assistant accountant and accounting officers to oversee the accounting progress of the companies within the Group, while ensuring completeness and proper accounting controls,
  • Review of management accounts and other performance reports, within set deadlines, on a monthly and periodical basis, to be reported to the Group Accountant, and/or the Group Financial Controller.
  • Oversees the preparation of consolidated financial statements for annual audit, that will comprise drafting of the financial statements, liaising with auditors and tax advisors.
  • Development of internal control procedures for accounting and finance, to ensure the presence of an effective internal control system.
  • Prepares and advises management in areas of budgets, forecast and resource utilisation.
  • Performs tax planning and workings with respect to VAT, APS, Corporate Tax, and advise management accordingly, while ensuring proper application of Mauritius tax rules, through discussions with tax advisers, and ensuring tax compliances.
  • Payroll management, that comprise the computation of payroll through the Company software, and administer the payroll payments.
  • Ensure submission of monthly/periodical/annual statutory returns, in relation to PAYE/CSG/VAT/TDS/APS/ROE/CTX.
  • Demonstrate good working methods, such as proper book-keeping of accounting records and evidences, interpreting and maintaining all contractual agreements, ensuring good knowledge on accounting standards, laws and regulations, as to promote efficient and effective output.
  • As part of Department Management, the Accountant is expected to,
  • Delegate, manage, coach and develop staffs to progressing levels,
  • Ensure, on-going, on-the-job training of staffs so that their work is being done more efficiently and effectively,
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills to coordinate the department to work as a motivated team, oversee work planning, give instructions and monitor performance.
  • The Accountant is also expected to perform on special assignments, such as projects, as allocated by senior management.
