Job Definition and Purpose
To assist in implementing, administering and maintaining all health, safety,
environmental and quality assurance aspects at site level to comply with all legislation.
Job Competence Operational
• To effectively control usage and care of safety-related items under their control
• Ensure contracts comply with all related legislation
• To participate in audits in line with safety policy and legislation requirements
• To monitor the safety of site environment effectively
• To attend and contribute to all site safety meetings
• To investigate and report on all site accidents/incidents effectively
• Advise management on SHEQ-related issues
• Develop and maintain excellent client relationships
Safety, Health and Environment
• Apply SHEQ Policies and procedures on project work under their control
• Actively ensure a safe work environment for all
Quality
• Assist in ensuring all Quality Assurance requirements are met as per ISO 9001:2015
• Support HSE Management Implementation as per ISO 45001:2018 / ISO 14001:2015
Teamwork & Coordination
• Collaborate with site engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, and suppliers
• Attend site meetings and contribute on SHEQ matters
People Management & Training
• Train and develop staff with regards to improved safety practices
• Conduct toolbox talks, induction sessions, and SHEQ training for site workers
• Promote a safety-first culture across all construction projects
Administration
• Effectively manage and ensure all SHEQ administration under their control comply with site requirements
• Maintain up-to-date records for safety training, permits, and inspections
• Ensure compliance with Mauritian regulations and internal SHEQ policies
• Prepare reports for management and regulatory authorities as required
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a construction environment.
Strong knowledge of Mauritian OSH Act (as amended) and ISO standards.
Basic knowledge of First Aid and Fire Safety is an advantage.
Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
Ability to work under pressure, working odd hours and manage multiple sites if
needed.
